【Hagoita】 ``Feather Tsuki"" is a game that was played during the Muromachi period.It is a game where you hit a ball with a feather on a board with a wooden handle called a hagoita. However during the Sengoku period it became more like a festival than a game. Exorcism as a ritual decoration as a talisman. On New Year"s Day it was customary to give talismans to women as talismans to ward off evil spirits. However in the Edo period the custom of giving a battledore to celebrate the birth of a girl child became established among the samurai families and the custom spread to the common people as well.

室町時代に行われていた遊び「羽根つき」
羽子板という木製の柄がある板で羽根つきの球を打つ遊びです。
それが戦国時代になると、遊びではなく祭礼としての要素が強くなりました。
神事としての祓いや縁起物としての飾り。正月には厄払いの魔除けとして女性に贈る習慣もできました。
それが江戸時代に入り、武家の間で女児の誕生に伴い健康を祝う贈答品として羽子板を送る習慣ができ、それが一般庶民にも広まって行きました。
